How we look after what you share.

Who we are

Roots & Reels is a family documentary studio based in Toronto, Ontario. You can reach us at hello@rootsandreels.ca with any question about your information.

What we collect

When you send us your list or a message, we keep what you enter: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, who the film is for, the ideas on your list with any notes, your answers to the Help me choose questions, and anything else you write to us.

While you use the Starting Points guide, we record how it is used — for example which screens and questions you visit, how long each one takes, which ideas you open or add, and the general area (city and country) and type of device you are using. This does not include your name, email address or anything you type into a notes or message box. We use it to understand which parts of the guide are helpful and which need work.

If you send us your list, it is linked to how you used the guide in that browser, so we can understand your choices when we talk.

How we use it

We use your information to get in touch about your film, to prepare for your pre-interview, and to improve the guide. We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where it is kept

Your information is stored securely with our hosting provider, Cloudflare. Your list and draft answers are also saved in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off; clearing your browser data removes them.

Your choices

You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you at any time by emailing hello@rootsandreels.ca.
